Perspectives on inclusion: Spotlight on a disability

Thursday 12th March; 12pm to 1pm
Virtual Disability Insights

Disability inclusion isn’t about being an expert in every type of disability, that’s impossible. It’s about having the confidence to engage with individuals, understand how they work best, and explore the support that enables them to thrive.

Our Disability Insights sessions each spotlight a different disability, helping us learn more about the experiences we often understand the least. This session will focus on Stammering. Through lived experiences and open conversation, we’ll explore the challenges individuals face, how they’ve overcome them, common workplace barriers, and the types of support that make a difference.

You’ll hear directly from a panel of speakers who will share their expertise, personal journeys and insights. Their stories will help attendees anticipate needs, remove barriers, and create inclusive environments where everyone can perform at their best.

These interactive and thought-provoking sessions offer a safe space to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and strengthen your disability confidence. You’ll gain practical ideas for meaningful adjustments, hear how organisations are successfully supporting disabled employees, and learn approaches to embedding inclusion into everyday workplace culture.

Whether you’re new to disability inclusion or want to build on what you already know, this session provides real-world insights, practical strategies, and inspiration to create a workplace where everyone can succeed.

Rebecca Farthing

Rebecca is a Data Scientist at Lloyds Banking Group and has worked in roles across commercial and consumer banking. She joined the bank in 2024 after completing her BSc in Data Science at the London School of Economics.

Rebecca has stammered since childhood and continues to stammer into adulthood. Having first-hand experience of the challenges that come with stammering in both university and corporate environments, she became motivated to support others facing similar barriers. This led her to volunteer with STAMMA, the British stammering charity, where she contributes to the Advocacy team to help support individuals, influence policy, and champion more inclusive experiences for people who stammer.

Rebecca is particularly passionate about increasing the visibility of disability in professional spaces. Having grown up with a stammer and rarely seeing people who spoke like her in senior or public‑facing roles, she is driven by the belief that representation matters in leadership. She hopes that by being open about her own experiences, she can help others feel that a successful and fulfilling career is possible for them too.
