Providing evidence & demonstrating commitment for Disability Confident Leadership

Author - Lise Austen, Recruiters’ Club Manager, MyPlus

The UK Government Disability Confident scheme is an accreditation scheme which aims to help employers make the most of the opportunities provided by employing disabled people. The Disability Confident scheme has 3 levels that have been designed to support employers on their Disability Confident journey.

  • Level 1 - Disability Confident Committed

  • Level 2 - Disability Confident Employer

  • Level 3 - Disability Confident Leader

Employers who have reached the ‘Employer’ level of the UK Government’s Disability Confident Scheme and have aspirations to become a ‘Leader’ will need to provide evidence for the various criteria and commitments they have made to achieve the next level of leadership. For employers who have already reached ‘Leader’ level, they will have pledged to demonstrate commitment as a leader and to encourage other employers to make the same journey to become disability confident. To maintain accreditation employers will be assessed every 3 years so being able to provide the evidence is key to both gaining and maintaining ‘Leader’ status of the Governments’ Disability Confident scheme.

As a Disability Confident Leader ourselves we fully understand and appreciate the process employers go through to achieve the 3 levels of Commitment, Employer and Leader of the Government’s Disability Confident Scheme and as a provider of disability employment services we ensure working with MyPlus, in particular our Recruiters’ Club, can help employers achieve your commitments and maintain your leadership level.

Membership of the MyPlus Recruiters’ Club, which provides support and resources around disability employment, offers many opportunities to meet the criteria of the Government’s Disability Confident Scheme, demonstrate commitment and share best practice with other employers. The majority of the activities are publicly available for other employers to access and link to and can therefore be used as evidence for the different levels.

In addition, MyPlus provides Recruiters’ Club members with a 6 month review every year of membership which can also be used as evidence. We are also happy to provide written statements detailing any other activities members have participated in over and above Recruiters’ Club benefits.

Highlighted below are all the opportunities for how employers can use Recruiters’ Club membership to provide evidence and to help demonstrate ongoing commitment after 3 years to maintain leadership status.
