Disability & student recruitment: Getting started

Thursday 27th January; 10 am to 11.15 am

Virtual Workshop

The number of students in UK universities identifying as having a disability is at an all-time high at 15%. Any organization that is serious about attracting and recruiting the very best talent, must be truly inclusive and this obviously includes those who have a disability; being able to leverage this talent pool dramatically increases the talent pool for any employer.

Whilst progress is being made in this area, many employers continue to say that engaging with students with disabilities remains challenging and progress isn’t happening as fast as they would like it to be. This doesn’t need to be the case and this workshop will provide delegates with all they need to kick start their disability confidence recruitment journey.

From understanding more about ‘disability’ and the employment challenges facing this talent pool, to digital accessibility and encouraging openness, delegates will build their knowledge, confidence and ability to attract and recruit students with disabilities, and ensure they are able to provide the relevant support required throughout the recruitment process.

The workshop will finish with a session on ‘getting comfy’ with disability which will address the common concerns we have when engaging with disabled candidates.

This workshop will:

  • Build your understanding of ‘disability’

  • Highlight the current challenges faced by disabled students seeking employment

  • Explore digital accessibility and what this means in practice

  • Ensure you can provide support and adjustments

    • It starts with encouraging openness

  • Develop your confident to engage with disabled candidates
