MyPlus progresses disability confidence on campus

A year on since the launch of the MyPlus Universities’ Club, aimed at providing university staff with the capability to support disabled students as they transition from university to employment, the club is already proving a success with 20 University members signed up, a new website and a fantastic program launching for 2021.

With the number of students with a disability or long-term health condition attending universities continuing to increase year on year, added to the fact it remains considerably harder for them to find employment upon graduation  compared to their non-disabled counterparts*, Universities have an important role in helping them transition into the workplace. The MyPlus Universities’ Club ( MPUC) builds the knowledge and skills needed by university staff to coach and mentor disabled students towards achieving their career potential.

In 2020  MyPlus has provided  disability confidence training to staff at 27 different institutions and delivered a programme of free training to over 300 students on how to navigate the recruitment process with a disability. The latest additions to MPUC are London Careers’ Group and the University of Gloucester.

“Our membership with MyPlus Universities Club has been a really valuable addition to the training and development of our Careers Adviser team.  It has helped increase our knowledge and confidence in working with students with disabilities.  It has also been great to be able to promote the MPSC resources and online events to our students.” University of Surrey 2020

This week sees the launch of the 2021 programme which tackles all areas of supporting disabled students applying for jobs, internships and placements. As well as free places for educational webinars, members will benefit from individual coaching sessions, access to MyPlus disability consulting expertise at reduced rates and a network of peers all committed to raising the ambitions of disabled students. MyPlus are offering a 10% discount to new members who join before 21st December 2020. Further details and a calendar of events are available on the new MyPlus Universities’ Club website. MyPlus invites any UK Universities interested in joining with a 10% discount to get in touch.
